The Meaning of 'Shalom'

By David Silver

The Hebrew word SHALOM is understood around the world to mean peace. But peace is only one small part of the meaning of the word SHALOM. Here in Israel, even though we don't have much in the way of peace, we use the word SHALOM on a daily basis. We use it to greet people with, and we use it to bid farewell to people. However, SHALOM means much more than peace, hello or goodbye.

Strong's Concordance 7965 - Hebrew Shalom ..... A word study in the New King James version for SHALOM says: Completeness, wholeness, health, peace, welfare, safety soundness, tranquility, prosperity, perfectness, fullness, rest, harmony, the absence of agitation or discord.

Shalom comes from the root verb Shalom meaning to be complete, perfect and full. In modern Hebrew the obviously related word Shelem means to pay for, and Shulam means to be fully paid.

Sar SHALOM (Prince of Peace) is one of the descriptive names the Bible uses to indicate the ministry and personality of the Messiah: Isaiah 9:6 - The Son of God is completely perfect in all things.

So in essence, when you speak out the word SHALOM - you are not only proclaiming peace, but all the above meanings of the word over that person - that's a mighty blessing!!!

Remember what the word of God says - "there is life or death in the power of the tongue".

We recently heard someone on a Christian TV program say: "No wonder the Jewish people are so blessed, because every time they say Shalom to one another, they are also allowing the full meaning (see above) of SHALOM to be pronounced over them. He humorously proceeded to say that this greeting word would be much more beneficial to the American people if they greeted each other with SHALOM instead of their usual "Hi" or "Howdy" greeting. As Josie and I adapted to life in Israel, we adapted to the SHALOM habit over the "Hi" habit....As Messianic Jews, we are called to bless you and we take that very seriously, by praying for you and by greeting you with SHALOM. Therefore, from now on, when we or someone says SHALOM to you, you should receive it as a tremendous blessing. And bless them back with a hearty SHALOM!"

Numbers 6:24-26: The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you. The Lord lift up His face upon you and give you SHALOM. In the name of SAR SHALOM - the Prince of Peace.

(The above was borrowed from OUT of ZION Ministries.)

FrankzDaGreat: Just want to share this knowledge with all. Sometimes I've been thinking why we say this word to one another? Or are we just can say this word in church only? Now, I understand more the usage of this word...

JL Kem Bukit Saban

JL Kem Bukit Saban, originally uploaded by frankz07.

Looking back all these picture reminded me of these guys. How I missed working together as a team with them. From this team I learned what teamwork is all about. Working as a team not because you are not strong or good enough to do it all alone but because we need one another. Working as a team can teached us to love and support each other regardless what weaknesses that you have. How I miss that kind of working environment now. Maybe that why 'Wonderpets' love to sing "What do work...teamwork". Yes, indeed from teamwork all things are possible!

My Job, My Calling : Can they be the same by Dan Miller

Is work just something we have to do to get to the weekend, or can it be a true expression of what God has called us to do? Does God only call a few people, and are those people always on staff in churches or on the mission field? Do the rest of us just work to support the few who are called? The Bible gives dignity to any work. There are no non-sacred occupations:

"God has given each of you some special abilities; be sure to use them to help each other, passing on to other's God's many kinds of blessings."

I Peter 4:10 (LB)

Could you tell me what success means for you this year? Are you where you thought you'd be at this stage of your life? Have you ever had a sense of "calling" in your life? How did you hear that calling? Is your work a fulfillment of your "calling?" Do you go home at night with a sense of meaning, purpose and accomplishment?

St Augustine said: "To work is to pray." God established work before the fall. God placed the first humans in the garden to "tend and keep it." This work assignment was given before sin entered the world and God pronounced the curse.

God blesses work even after the fall. If work were evil, God would never encourage people to engage in it. In Colossians 3:23 we are told to "work hard and cheerfully at all you do, just as though you were working for the Lord and not merely for your masters (bosses)." (LB)

God expected us to enjoy our work! Even Solomon in his most pessimistic moments realized this. "That everyone may... find satisfaction in all his toil - this is the gift of God." (Ecc. 3:13) Work that fulfills our "calling" will be energizing and uplifting.

God is saving the greatest rewards for eternity - and work will be among them. Surprise! The saved will "build houses", "plant vineyards", and shall "long enjoy the work of their hands." (Isaiah 65:17-25)

Thank God It's Friday relays a secular work ethic. For the Christian, work should be meaningful and an expression of who we are. It has been said that the true measure of a person is not what he does on Sunday, but who he is Monday through Saturday, and that includes what we do in our work.

There are 3 components that must be blended in our work in order for it to be an expression of our calling. (Keep in mind, your goal is to develop a strategic life plan, not just a career path.)

Skills and Abilities (What)

The most common mistake people make in choosing a career is to do something simply because they are good at it. Remembering the happiest times in your life and the times when you felt most fulfilled are better indicators of your calling than just knowing what you have the ability to do. You must have the ability, but that's only one component.

Personality Traits (How)

How do you relate to other people, projects, and ideas? Are you analytical and logical, or expressive and outgoing? Are you nurturing, supportive and encouraging or do you thrive when you are working on a project in isolation? There is no "right" or "wrong" here, but understanding your uniqueness will help identify the best environment.

Values, Dreams and Passions (Why)

Are you motivated by the constant search for new knowledge? Are you moved by beauty in nature and your surroundings? What are you drawn to even when money is not an issue? What is it that when you are doing it, time just flies by? What God calls us to do does not stamp out who we are. Look for moments of being in the zone, like an excellent athlete. Remember Eric Liddle, who when challenged to come back and do missionary work rather than run competitively, said: "God made me fast and when I run, I feel His pleasure." (From the movie, Chariots of Fire.)

Knowing these 3 areas about oneself leads to a sense of continuity. These components are relatively changeless; however the career application can change multiple times. Knowing that the average job is about 3.2 years in length, it is not even appropriate to try to identify the "right" job. Rather, we need to get a broader sense of the role work plays in a balanced and meaningful life. A critical issue is to distinguish between the following terms:

1. Vocation - from the Latin vocare, which means "to call"

This is the big picture; the most profound. Vocation must incorporate "calling," "purpose," "mission" and "destiny." It's what you're doing in life that makes a difference, that builds meaning for you, and that you can look back on in your later years to see the impact you've made on the world.

2. Career - "to run or move at full speed, rush wildly. Careen"

"Career" comes from the Latin word for "cart" and later from the Middle French word for "racetrack." In other words, you can go around and around really fast for a long time but never get anywhere. That's why in today's volatile work environment, even professionals with careers like physicians, attorneys, CPAs, dentists and pastors may choose to get off the expected track and choose another career. A career is a line of work, but it's not necessarily your calling. You can have different careers at different points in your life that all support your "calling".

3. Job -- one's daily activities

A job is the most specific and immediate of the three terms. It has to do with one's daily activities that produce an income or a paycheck. The dictionary defines "job" as "a lump portion, a task, chore or duty." In today's workplace, the average person will have 14-16 different jobs in his/her lifetime. Thus the job surely cannot be the critical definition of one's calling or vocation. However, the job should in fact be an expression of that calling and an integration of one's ministry.

Here's a worthy goal:

"The master in the art of living makes little distinction between his work and his play, his labor and his leisure, his mind and his body, his information and his recreation, his love and his religion. He hardly knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence at whatever he does, leaving others to decide whether he is working or playing. To him he is always doing both." James Michener

Blessed By This Post From Ps. Joseph Prince

What Do You See?

Mark 11:24

24Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.

A blind lady was led to a great healing evangelist for prayer. After he had prayed for her, he asked her, “Now, tell me what you see.” She opened her eyes only to be told, “Close your eyes. Tell me what you see.” She opened her eyes again only to be told, “I didn’t say to open your eyes. I asked you what you saw. Close your eyes! Now, tell me what you see.”

This went on for a while, until the lady realized that the evangelist was asking her what she saw on the inside. Did she see herself seeing? When she understood that, she said, “I see myself with sight.” Then, the evangelist told her, “Now, slowly open your eyes.” That moment, she opened her eyes to perfect vision!

When you prayed just now, what did you see inside you? Were you praying for someone’s healing, but seeing that person in a coffin? Were you praying for a financial breakthrough, but seeing the banks pursuing you till you were bankrupt?

You see, you don’t get what you pray for. You get what you believe you receive when you pray. Jesus said, “Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.”

Beloved, “whatever things” covers your every need. And believing that you receive them comes before having them. Jesus once told a centurion, “Go your way; and as you have believed, so let it be done for you.” The centurion’s servant was healed that same hour. (Matthew 8:13) The centurion believed that he received his miracle even before he saw it in the natural.

So when you pray, what do you really believe and see on the inside?

“Well, Pastor Prince, I really can’t see it.”
Then don’t pray yet. Change your vision on the inside first. Start seeing yourself with the answer. See yourself healed. See yourself living in the bigger house that you need. See yourself enjoying more than enough. When you can see it and believe it, then pray in faith, and you will have whatever you ask for!

Life Lesson For Our Thought

Written By Regina Brett, 90 years old, of The Plain Dealer, Cleveland , Ohio

"To celebrate growing older, I once wrote the 45 lessons life taught me.. It is the most-requested column I've ever written."My odometer rolled over to 90 in August, so here is the column once more:

1. Life isn't fair, but it's still good.

2. When in doubt, just take the next small step.

3. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone.

4. Your job won't take care of you when you are sick. Your friends and parents will. Stay in touch.

5. Pay off your credit cards every month.

6. You don't have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.

7. Cry with someone. It's more healing than crying alone.

8. It's OK to get angry with God. He can take it.

9. Save for retirement starting with your first paycheck.

10. When it comes to chocolate, resistance is futile.

11. Make peace with your past so it won't screw up the present.

12. It's OK to let your children see you cry.

13. Don't compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey is all about.

14. If a relationship has to be a secret, you shouldn't be in it.

15. Everything can change in the blink of an eye. But don't worry; God never blinks.

16. Take a deep breath. It calms the mind.

17. Get rid of anything that isn't useful, beautiful or joyful.

18. Whatever doesn't kill you really does make you stronger.

19. It's never too late to have a happy childhood... But the second one is up to you and no one else.

20. When it comes to going after what you love in life, don't take no for an answer.

21. Burn the candles, use the nice sheets, wear the fancy lingerie. Don't save it for a special occasion. Today is special.

22. Over prepare, then go with the flow.

23. Be eccentric now. Don't wait for old age to wear purple.

24. The most important sex organ is the brain.

25. No one is in charge of your happiness but you.

26. Frame every so-called disaster with these words 'In five years, will this matter?'

27. Always choose life.

28. Forgive everyone everything.

29. What other people think of you is none of your business.

30. Time heals almost everything. Give time time.

31. However good or bad a situation is, it will change.

32. Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does.

33. Believe in miracles.

34. God loves you because of who God is, not because of anything you did or didn't do.35. Don't audit life. Show up and make the most of it now.

36. Growing old beats the alternative -- dying young.

37. Your children get only one childhood.

38. All that truly matters in the end is that you loved.

39. Get outside every day. Miracles are waiting everywhere.

40. If we all threw our problems in a pile and saw everyone else's,we'd grab ours back.

41. Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need.

42. The best is yet to come.

43. No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.

44. Yield.

45. Life isn't tied with a bow, but it's still a gift."

Aku MilikMu - GMB

Di hidupku
Kurasakan hadirMu
Dalam setiap waktu
Di hidupku
Kau selalu sertaku
S'lalu mengasihiku
Cinta yang kudapat dariMu
Kan selalu terlukis di hatiku

Reff:
Ketika Kau bertanya padaku
Apakah ada cinta yang lain
Kusadari cinta dalam hatiku
Akulah milikMu
Hanyalah diriMu
Ketika Kau bertanya padaku
Apakah kukasihi yang lain
Kusadari Kau s'galanya bagiku
Akulah milikMu
Hanyalah diriMu

Remarks: Such a wonderful song by GMB. Gave me this big thought. Jika Kau bertanya padaku.... God, give me strength to love You everyday. Only You and no others because I'm Yours!...Amen.

Weekends

3 days exciting weekends is over. How I miss the weekends! So dammed good! Wahlau eh... What did I do last weekends!

1st May (Friday)
First, I need to mention here that my nephew is staying with me for a while. Wake up around 10am and then do some house cleaning. OMG, banyaknya debu. Make me think when was my last cleaning. Hahaha... Then, I prepared some lunch - telur goreng, sausage and mee goreng (nyum..nyum..). Taste delicious. In the evening, we went to Sunway Pyramid for window shopping. But the fun thing is laughing at how peoples dress up nowadays. Hahaha... Funny lar... I dun mind if ppls say I'm out dated but I'm not going to dress like the kids nowadays. Plan to watch 'Wolverine' at night but the ticket is full. Wow, macam goreng pisang panas. We had our dinner at KFC walaupun I'm sick of KFC but my nephew never sick of it... Going back home after had our dinner.

2nd May
Wake up around 10am but so lazy to get up from my bed. Lying on the bed and think abt life. Wow, so many things to think about. But who cares! As long as I enjoy myself at the moment kan? My nephew pulak sibuk bercerita siapa akan keluar AF malam ini. He's very Hafizistic (now, where did I get that word?) and worried if Hafiz cannot get into final. I told him dun worry, Hafiz will get into the final (it is Claudia that I worry about). Then we went to Berjaya Times Square and Bukit Bintang. When we reach Berjaya Times Square I was surprised because they were having great discount sales! Apa lagi aku pun sibuk jugak memilih pakaian because the discount is so dammed good. Manage to get few shirts for myself... Hahaha... We went to watch 'Wolverine' and manage to get the ticket walaupun terpaksa queue up about 45 min. OMG, sakit kaki aku. But it's worth queue up the long line because that movie is a good one. After the movie, we had our dinner at KFC (OMG, again...) because once again my nephew want to eat KFC. Forcing myself to eat that chicken... Going back home and manage to watch AF and said to see Claudia and Aishah have to go home tonight. Both are talented presenter for me. Surprise when Tiara announce abt AFUNDI Masuk. Here they goes again, nak masukkan siapa pulak? Aril? That poyo guy... Peduli apa aku... Went to bed quite late around 4am I think because cannot sleep due to the hot climate.

3rd May
Sunday - woke up very late, around 11am. Nah, I missed the church service this week. Woke up and watch 611-astro ceria. My nephew pulak can't stop talking about Hafiz doing great act as P.Ramlee the night before. He's so Hafizistic. Well, I do like Hafiz but I dun talk abt Hafiz all the times. Janji bahagia... Eat maggi mee for lunch coz I love the assam laksa flavor. OMG, thanks God for maggi! Evening, we're having our dinner at Tesco. I ate ikan kembung bakar and it's is awesome! My nephew pulak tak puas hati coz he tot that mee laksa asam is the same as our Sarawak Laksa. He can't stop complaint abt it but at least it can make him talk about Hafiz for a few minutes! Hahahaha.... Going back home and watch 'Smallville' latest seasons. After 'Smallville' went to sleep but can't sleep well because I can sensed Monday is coming.....

4th May
OMG...OMG...OMG...It's real, it's Monday...Kerja kerja dan kerja...OMG...It's Monday...

A year has gone...

Sedar tak sedar sudah setahun bah aku berada di Shah Alam a.k.a Semenanjung Malaysia. I officially arrived at this land on 31st March 2008 and start my working life on the 1st April 2008. Looking back there are so many experince that I need to thanks the Almighty.

I still remember last year how hard for me to came here. I almost reject this job and saying to myself "Biarlah aku dapat gaji kecik sekalipun yang penting aku tinggal di Sarawak". I don't understand and keep questioning Him with that stupid famous question, "Why?". I gave so many reason to my family why I shouldn't take this job but they never buy my bullshit. Worst came to worst Anddy also don't want to buy my bullshit. Akhirnya, aku terpaksa berserah walaupun dalam hati bukan senang nak menerima kenyataan. To make myself happy I told myself that I'm a risk taker person and I am taking risk for a new challenge in my life. But, that is not what I really want for myself.

A year has gone and time running very fast. In a year the Almighty continue to show me His faithfulness and mercy. There are new every morning. Okay, sometimes we are telling ourselves that my life is mine and God does not exist. But, as we go deeper it's hard to denying that He is truly there. And sometimes, that stupid famous question come again and I always compare myself to my non christian friend how easy their life are. Last time during youth age, it's easy to sing and accept that 'God is the strenght of my heart' but now it's more easy to question Him than to proclaim Him rite? Now, I realise that the more I question, I'm not satisfied with the things I have and the more I think about facts (rather than FAITH) actually made me become self-centre. Life is all about me, me and me but where is He in this precious life?

Father, forgive me for being such a selfish son and self-centre person. I can see that in everythings that happen to me it is You who want the best for me. You have a perfect plan for me eventhough I can't see it right now. Help me to let go my ego and to focus on You more rather than what I want for myself. I want to thank you for all the blessing that you've given me this year - stable job, house, church, new friends, new and exciting experince and the lists can go on... and also thank you Father for my family and friends all back home for their never ending support. How I miss them so much Father! Bless in whatever they are doing and never let them go from You. Strengthen me everyday so that I can learn to walk with You daily and let You carry me instead of stubbornly walking by myself. I love You dear Father. Thank you so much. In Jesus name, I say this prayer...AMEN!

Leeland - Tears of the Saint

Suddenly I remember this song and browse for the lyrics in the internet. As I listen to it over and over again on my pc, the melody become stuck in my head. Leeland is very nice Christian Rock Music nowadays. So, here I want to share Tears of the Saint lyrics with you guys:

There are many prodigal sons
On our city streets they run
Searching for shelter
There are homes broken down

People's hopes have fallen to the ground
From failures
This is an emergency!
There are tears from the saints
For the lost and unsaved
We're crying for them come back home
We're crying for them come back home
And all your children will stretch out their hands
And pick up the crippled man Father,
we will lead them home Father,
we will lead them home
There are schools full of hatred
Even churches have forsaken
Love and mercy
May we see this generation
In it's state of desperation
For Your glory
This is an emergency!
Sinner, reach out your hands!
Children in Christ you stand!
Sinner, reach out your hands!
Children in Christ you stand!
And all Your children will stretch out their hands
And pick up the crippled man
Father, we will lead them home
Father, we will lead them home

For me this song is very true. The church is losing it's grip because everyone in church want to live a comfortable life. It's all about me having blessed by God (self centred). I'm afraid that when the sinners start to reach out their hands there are no children in Christ will stand to give them a hand. This because he children in Christ are busy enjoying their blessing for themselves!

Still Feel Tired

Just coming back from induction course at Perak last weekend. Really tired and don't have enough rest this month. Next week will be going to Besut, Terengganu for BTN some more. Travel a lots this month and I dun know until when I can stand. How I wish can watch some movies such as Dragonball, Street Fighter or Geng.

He Will Carry Me

HE ARRIVED THIS MORNING, WE HAD PRAYER; SPENT SOME TIME JUST TALKING, and HE HELD ME FOR AWHILE BECAUSE I WAS HAVING A BAD MORNING. THEN, HE WAS ON HIS WAY TO YOUR PLACE.
When He gets to your PC, escort Him to the next stop. Please don't allow Him to sleep on your PC. The message He is carrying is very important and needs to go round. May God bless you as you do this - AMEN.
Don't go Lord...Stay with me...

My Body Is Weak

I had this ‘Chikungunya’ fever. This is the first time I heard about this fever. It’s similar to dengue but not as dangerous as dengue.

This info I got from internet about this fever:-

Chikungunya (in the
Makonde language "that which bends up") virus (CHIKV) is an insect-borne virus, of the genus, Alphavirus, that is transmitted to humans by virus-carrying Aedes mosquitoes.[1] There have been recent outbreaks of CHIKV associated with severe morbidity. CHIKV causes an illness with symptoms similar to dengue fever. CHIKV manifests itself with an acute febrile phase of the illness lasts only two to five days, followed by a prolonged arthralgic disease that affects the joints of the extremities. The pain associated with CHIKV infection of the joints persists for weeks or months.[2][3]
The incubation period of Chikungunya disease is from two to four days. Symptoms of the disease include a fever up to 40 °C (104 °F), a petechial or maculopapular rash of the trunk and occasionally the limbs, and arthralgia or arthritis affecting multiple joints.[4] Other nonspecific symptoms can include headache, conjunctival infection, and slight photophobia. Typically, the fever lasts for two days and then ends abruptly. However, other symptoms, namely joint pain, intense headache, insomnia and an extreme degree of prostration last for a variable period; usually for about 5 to 7 days.[4] Patients have complained of joint pains for much longer time periods depending on their age.[5][6]

When I went for blood test yesterday, my result was weak for dengue but they told me it’s Chikungunya. Though it’s not dangerous according to them but I still feel the pain in my weak body. I can’t sleep at night. Wake up restless in the morning and going to work today in weak body condition. It’s strange why today modern medical world don’t have any cure for this disease? Where is all the intelligent doctors gone? Or maybe there are no more intelligent doctors exist in this world...

Sorry, for my hard word to all the doctor. I’m just voicing up what inside my heart. My body is extremely weak when I manage to have only 2 hours sleep per day for the past 5 days. Hope this painful will end soon...

Allah Mengerti Allah Peduli

Banyak perkara yang tak dapat ku mengerti
Mengapakah harus terjadi di dalam kehidupan ini
Satu perkara yang ku simpan dalam ha-ti
Tiada satupun kan terjadi tanpa Allah peduli

Reff:
Allah mengerti Allah peduli
Segala persoalan yang kita hadapi
Tak akan pernah dibiarkanNya
Kubergumul sendiri s'bab Allah mengerti

Sampai sekarang aku terus memainkan lagu ini di PC ku....Those who would like to download the mp3 this is the website:-
Enjoy it...

Happy Chinese New Year

Satu hal...

Satu hal yang kurindu
Berdiam di dalam rumahMu
Satu hal yang kupinta
Menikmati baitMu Tuhan

Lebih baik satu hari
Di pelataranMu
Daripada seribu tahun
Di tempat lain

Aku memujiMu
Aku menyembahMu

Pagi tadi semasa mendengar lagu ni kat office, keluar jugalah air mata. Perasaanku rinduku kepadaNya muncul semula....

A New Start

It's 2009 and one year older....
Went back for Christmas holiday recently and really having a good time in Kuching. The best time is Christmas Dinner on Christmas eve. This is the first time we were having Christmas dinner together as my family is non believer. PTL and believe that God will do somethings great in the life of my family. On the Christmas day itself I didn't go out and having a good time being alone.
I met lots of old friends this time. I met Fly and Celestia at church and Christina at watch night service. Wow, that is after 15 years I didn't met her. I also met with some old classmates from SMK Sungai Maong and glad to see them actually. Meeting all these peoples make me miss my golden years. Wish can have that time back....
Coming back to Shah Alam on the 4th January. Now back in office life come back to normal. No more holidays, no more remembering those golden years memories no more eating kolo mee. Anywhere and anyhow life must go on as usual because just like Irene told me, life is more precious than kolo mee...
